Astoria is known for it's Greek food, so we will start our tour at a food cart well loved by Astorians followed by a Greek pastry shop known for loukoumades (Greek donuts!). We'll walk a bit, and then we'll have the opportunity to have ice cream or gelato -- or both -- or neither if you're still full from the donuts! The tour will end at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden where we can enjoy beer at picnic tables and also some delicious Czech food.

Please plan to purchase something from at least 2 of the 4 places where we will be stopping. The cost of the food tour will range from $20-$30 depending on what you purchase.

The World's Fare at CitiField is reimagining one of the most iconic fairs. Over 100 vendors will come together in New York City’s most diverse borough and unite through authentic food, drink and music curated by the city’s leading culinary advocates. The World’s Fare will be a grand celebration, advocating equality & diversity in the food industry, and promoting incredible male and female talent that make New York City’s food scene so unique.

The World’s Fare has formed a culinary committee co-chaired by renowned Danish chef Claus Meyer, American author, journalist and culinary historian Doctor Jessica B. Harris and Singapore based KF Seetoh who is the creator and curator of The World Street Food Congress. Meyer and Seetoh will champion and support chefs, restaurants, street food vendors and food businesses participating in the event.

Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC's streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2016, nearly 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets.

Summer Streets extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue and connecting streets, with easy access from all points in New York City, allowing participants to plan a trip as long or short as they wish. All activities at Summer Streets are free of charge, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels to share the streets respectfully.

Car Free Earth Day is an annual car-free event, which will be held this year on Saturday, April 21, the day before Earth Day. The Event opens thirty blocks of Broadway from Times Square to Union Square for people to explore on foot during event hours. Programming is presented at five rest stops: Times Square (42nd Street and Broadway), Herald Square (34th Street and Broadway), Garment (39th Street and Broadway), Flatiron (23rd Street and Broadway), and Union Square (17th Street and Broadway). Environmental programming is offered by City agencies and nonprofit organizations along the route to promote activism and education surrounding climate change, sustainability and other relevant topics.

June 12: Museum Mile Festival

The annual Museum Mile Festival offers free admission to some of the world's finest art collections during extended evening hours. The 23-block stretch of Fifth Avenue is home to seven participating institutions—El Museo del Barrio, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, Neue Galerie and the Museum of the City of New York. In addition to all the art to see inside, there are plenty of outdoor festivities: face painting, chalk drawing, live music and other block-party-type events. The festival kicks off at 6 PM, rain or shine.

East Side Neighborhoods is partnering with Hope for New York this fall to offer opportunities to serve in Western Queens. Each year, Cru Inner City packs thousands of "Boxes of Love"® to serve families in need throughout NYC. Volunteers will pack boxes that contains all the food items a family would need for a Thanksgiving meal. This is a great group opportunity, and a family-friendly opportunity as well—children are welcome! Kids will also be putting together gospel bead bracelets and decorating the boxes. REGISTER HERE

East Side Neighborhoods is partnering with Hope for New York this fall to offer opportunities to serve on the Upper East Side 80s & 90s neighborhood. The Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS) serves people who are chronically, formerly or at-risk of becoming homeless. NCS was founded on the premise that homelessness is the responsibility of the entire community. Volunteers support NCS through shopping for groceries ahead of time to prepare sandwiches and by bringing bingo prizes for the residents. The first hour is spent playing bingo with residents - this is an opportunity to develop friendships with those who attend. During the second hour volunteers will prepare sandwiches and tea/coffee and serve the residents. REGISTER HERE!

East Side Neighborhoods is partnering with Hope for New York this fall to offer opportunities to serve on the Upper East Side 80s & 90s neighborhood. Citymeals-on-Wheels has provided a continuous lifeline of nutritious food and human company to homebound elderly New Yorkers in need, helping them to live with dignity in their own familiar homes and communities. By partnering with 33 neighborhood-based meals programs, Citymeals provides the centers with the resources to offer weekend, holiday and emergency meals to the elderly they normally serve during the week.

Join fellow volunteers to pick up meals at local UES center, receive route for delivery from center, and walk in groups of 2-3 to deliver meals to elderly recipients in the neighborhood. All ages are welcome to volunteer! Youth under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. REGISTER HERE

Volunteers lead various aspects of the worship service, which includes a time of confession, renewal, scripture reading, preaching, and music.
